17 April 2023

Jakarta, April 17, 2023 - During the holy month of Ramadan, Super Indo supermarkets marked the start of Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa which will be operated by Foodbank of Indonesia (FOI). Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa is a form of humanitarian action that is expected to benefit the welfare of the community by opening access to healthy food and supporting the Government's efforts to create food sovereignty. In addition to having the function of a mobile food kitchen, Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa will also function as an educational vehicle to invite mothers to return to cooking at home, and a disaster kitchen. In addition, supported by selected supplier partners, Super Indo during the month of Ramadan and Syawal 1444H also distributed thousands of ready-to-eat food packages for the pre-prosperous community. The food package distribution program titled Senyuman Ramadan is expected to ease the burden of the underprivileged during the festive period, a time when all food prices increase. The healthy food provided by Super Indo and its supply partners is processed through FOI's Food Kitchen (DPF), which is part of FOI's network of volunteers in 20 locations across Java and South Sumatra.

"Since 2018, Super Indo has collaborated with FOI to prevent food waste and utilize available food to help thousands of underprivileged residents. With the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen, we hope FOI can improve its services and utilize the food truck as a Food Kitchen, Education Kitchen and Disaster Kitchen. In addition, the operation of the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen is expected to help the Government, in this case the National Food Agency (Bapanas), through the Food Rescue Movement to prevent food waste by wisely managing excess food for the welfare of the community," said Donny Ardianta Passa, Vice President Buying & Indirect Procurement Super Indo.

Furthermore, Hendro Utomo, CEO of Foodbank of Indonesia Network said "We are grateful to Super Indo for the cooperation that has been established so far to save food from being wasted. Today, the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen is officially operational which can help us to speed up the processing and distribution of food to people in need. Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa is a means of supporting the Dapur Mustikarasa Campaign which invites all mothers to return to cooking for children under five and their families, as a fun and noble activity. We cook using food that grows around us and use spices as a delicacy of authentic Indonesian flavors. This movement led by mothers can reduce the stunting rate which is still at 21.6% and help 7 million Indonesian children who are malnourished due to yesterday's pandemic for the future of Indonesia to compete with other countries."

Dr. Sarwo Edhy, S.P., M.M, Plt. Principal Secretary of the National Food Agency said, "We really appreciate and support the steps taken by Super Indo to combat food waste through the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen. This activity is a concrete manifestation of good collaboration between the private corporate sector and community organizations. The parties involved here share the same passion to reduce food waste in Indonesia. The movement to reduce Food Lost and Waste (FLW) has high urgency, because it is closely correlated with the handling of food and nutrition vulnerability that is currently being encouraged by the government. We strongly support this program which can be one of the efforts in handling food waste which has become a serious issue in the world through improving the governance of the national food system. Hopefully this program can continue."

The Bappenas study noted that FLW in Indonesia in 2000-2019 ranged from 23 to 48 million tons/year, equivalent to 115-184 kg/capita/year. This means that each individual contributes more than 1 quintal of food waste per year, and has an impact on economic losses of approximately IDR213 to 551 trillion per year. On the other hand, the potential FLW could be channeled to feed 61-125 million people or 29-47 percent of Indonesia's population.
Aditya Bentoni Iswara, Chairman of Yayasan Sagraha Indonesia Peduli Sesama (SIPS) said "In line with the pillars of Yayasan SIPS, Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa is a form of good collaboration from multi-stakeholders who have the same vision of humanity and of course we will continue to support it. Hopefully in the future, more and more collaborators can participate so that in the end many people feel helped by the presence of the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen. "

Yuvlinda Susanta, GM Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Super Indo, revealed "Dapur Bergerak Mustikarasa is the realization of the Company's promise to be a useful part of society. We are grateful that Super Indo has a good business and in running social programs has the support of all relevant stakeholders including the Government, FOI and supply partners. With the Mustikarasa Mobile Kitchen, Super Indo hopes that FOI can improve its services and utilize the kitchen as much as possible to help underprivileged communities by providing healthy food. In addition, we would also like to thank our supply partners who have supported the Senyuman Ramadan "Everyone Can Donate Food in Ramadan" program. May all good efforts bring blessings to everyone."

The Ramadan Smile program is a social action where Super Indo and supply partners set aside a portion of profits from sales during the program. The more products sold or purchased by customers at Super Indo, the more the maximum donation value will be given to the beneficiaries. The program aims to provide access to healthy food for people in need during the festive period of Ramadan and Shawwal through FOI Food Kitchens located in 20 areas of Java and South Sumatra. The program is running and supported by Super Indo's supply partners Belfoods, Cedea, Sunpride, as well as 365 products from 2-15 May 2023.

"Everyone plays a role in opening access to healthy food for the community. As Indonesians who are accustomed to the tradition of mutual cooperation, let us work together. We believe care and real action can end hardship. We hope more companies will follow Super Indo's lead and get involved in this gotong-royong action." Yuvlinda concluded.
